Which airport should I fly into?

For most of our guests traveling from the United States, we recommend flying into Milan. Milan offers significantly more direct and international flight options than Bergamo, making travel simpler and often more affordable. From Milan, you can take a comfortable train to Bergamo in about an hour, making it an easy final leg of the journey. If you find a good itinerary into Bergamo Airport (BGY), that's also a great option. It's much closer to Città Alta—about a 15–20 travel—but flight options are generally more limited for international travelers. We recommend comparing flights to both airports before booking.

Should I stay in Città Alta or the lower city (Città Bassa)?

If possible, we highly recommend staying in Città Alta. It's where our wedding events will take place, and you'll be surrounded by the beautiful medieval streets, restaurants, cafés, and historic atmosphere that made us fall in love with Bergamo. Plus, we are encouraging all guests to stay in Città Alta so we will all be close together! Staying in the lower city is absolutely fine, but you'll need to travel up to Città Alta for the wedding festivities.

When should I arrive?

Everyone is invited to a welcome dinner at 6:30PM on Thursday, April 1, 2027 at Albergo Ristorante il Sole in Città Alta. The wedding and reception are the following day - Friday, April 2, 2027. So, ensure you arrive early enough to make the welcome dinner! More info in the RSVP. The ceremony on Friday begins 3PM sharp!

Can I walk from the ceremony to the reception?

Yes! It is a 10 minute walk from the church to where the reception will take place. If you are staying in Citta Alta, everything will be walkable!

Should I rent a car?

For most guests, we actually recommend not renting a car. Città Alta is a medieval city with narrow cobblestone streets, limited vehicle access, and very little parking. Walking is by far the easiest and most enjoyable way to explore. If you're planning to extend your trip and explore more of northern Italy, then renting a car may make sense after your stay in Bergamo.

Will transportation be provided?

Because many locations in Città Alta are within walking distance, the events may not require transportation. You will, however, need to use either taxi or bus to get to Citta Alta from the train station or airport.

Will I be walking a lot?

Yes—but that's part of the magic of Città Alta! The Upper City is a beautifully preserved medieval town with cobblestone streets, hills, and stairways. Expect to do quite a bit of walking throughout the weekend as you explore restaurants, cafés, historic sites, and our wedding festivities. We highly recommend bringing a comfortable pair of walking shoes for exploring during the day. If you're planning to wear dress shoes or heels for the wedding, you may also want to pack a more comfortable pair for walking to and from the venue. Trust us—the views are worth every step.

What apps do you use to have seamless travel experience?

Getting around with Google Maps is the best for train and bus times. It will also include how much time it will take you to walk to different locations. Omio is the only app we use to purchase train tickets. Using google maps to pick a time for arrival to your destination and finding the matching ticket on omio is a breeze. It takes some getting used to, so we suggest getting comfortable with both apps before arrival.

Is Bergamo a touristy city?

Not in the way places like Rome, Venice, or Florence are—and that's one of the reasons we love it so much. Bergamo feels authentic. You'll find incredible food, beautiful architecture, and rich history without the overwhelming crowds. It's one of Italy's hidden gems, and we can't wait to share it with all of you.

Where should we stay?

When we travel, we love to immerse ourselves into the culture. We normally choose accomodations on Booking.com or Airbnb that are home rentals and accessible for easy exploration. Make sure you look for accomodations in Citta Alta!! More info in Travel & Lodging.

When should I book my hotel?

The earlier, the better. Città Alta has hotels and many vacation rentals, but it is a small town, so the earlier, the better.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. Make sure your passport is valid for international travel well before your departure date. We recommend checking expiration dates as early as possible.

Will my credit card work in Italy?

Most restaurants, hotels, and shops accept major credit cards. It's still a good idea to have a debit card available in case you need to withdraw a small amount of cash during your trip.

Will my phone work in Italy?

Most major U.S. carriers offer international plans, and many travelers also choose to use an eSIM for affordable data while abroad. We recommend checking with your mobile provider before your trip. Having roaming data and the ability to use Google Maps is essential when navigating around.

Do I need to tip?

Tipping in Italy is very different from the United States. Restaurants typically include service, and while leaving a few extra euros for exceptional service is appreciated, large tips are not expected. A "coperto" is charged per person for sit down service, this can be viewed as the tip. It is typically 1-5 euros per person.

Should I extend my trip?

Absolutely! If your schedule allows, we'd highly encourage turning the wedding into a vacation. Northern Italy has so much to offer, and Bergamo makes an excellent home base. Milan, Lake Como, Verona, Venice, and the Dolomites are all within reach and make fantastic additions to your itinerary.
